The Brecon Beacons is one of three National Parks in Wales and is considered by many the most lovely.
Incorporating the Beacons, the Black Mountains and the Usk Valley, it is a beautiful and peaceful area, with plenty of variety, especially for those who enjoy the countryside and outdoor activities.
Pen y Fan is the highest point in Southern Britain and the walking here and on the neighbouring mountains is quite superb all year round.

There are many superb walks on the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. Horse riding, fishing, and canoeing can all be arranged locally.
The River Usk, which flows below the town, is renowned for the good trout and salmon fishing; there is an interesting strongly buttressed bridge with twelve arches on the downstream side and thirteen arches on the upstream. The attractive town centre has excellent shops, pubs and restaurants, a Post Office and garage. There are many other great dining venues within easy travelling distance

Crickhowell is approximately 7 miles from Abergavenny, the nearest railway station and 14 miles from the market town of Brecon.

Just 3 miles towards Brecon is Pencelli, also on the Brecon & Monmouth Canal. Here you will find Darnley Cottage, with accommodation for up to 4. Conveniently located, the village pub is within easy walking distance.
Brecon is centrally positioned in the National Park and is a very popular destination for walkers, mountain bikers and those who just enjoy being within the beautiful surrounding countryside with its' panoramic views.
The cathedral town boasts two museums and recreational facilities include boating, tennis, a leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool, various children's parks and two fine golf courses. The world renowned Brecon Jazz Festival, held in the town during August, attracts visitors and performers from all over the world.
The town centre is quaint with two supermarkets, shops and a wide selection of restaurants, inns and cafes. In the surrounding area there are many village inns worth a visit. Five miles from Brecon is the National Park's Mountain Centre, which showcases the natural history, geology and scenery of the area.
