Kiwi Cottage,

Talybont-on-Usk, near Brecon.

Kiwi Cottage is a 200 year old stone cottage located right in the centre of the popular canalside village of Talybont-on-Usk and therefore also in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.  It is so called because there is a Kiwi Fruit (male and female!) climbing one wall of the cottage.

Recently added to our portfolio, the accommodation sleeps up to 5 people, in three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with a single bed.  Please note that there are only three beds altogether, so if this configuration does not suit your party, please look for a larger property.

The master bedroom is on the second floor and enjoys superb views in two directions, looking across to the Brecon and Monmouth Canal one way and Allt yr Esgair the other.

The other double and the single bedroom are on the first floor, with views out across the canal and beyond.  On this floor also is a modern family bathroom with bath, electric shower (over bath), wash hand basin and wc, and a second wc with hand basin.

Please note that this is an old cottage and the stairs up to the first and second floors are quite steep.

Downstairs, there is a fully-equipped kitchen, separate dining room and lounge.

The spacious kitchen has the following facilities - electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, separate freezer and toaster.  There is also plenty of storage space and a hatch through to the dining room.

The dining room has the original flagstone floor and oak beams, with dining table and chairs. Wifi connection is available via the Home Hub located here.

The cosy lounge has a log burner, sofa and chairs, Freesat television and radio, with separate DVD player and CD player with iPod dock.

The property has full oil-fired central heating and bedding and towels are provided.  There are no specific car parking spaces for the cottage, but parking is available outside on the road through the village, or off-street

within 200 metres.

The property is non-smoking.

Outside is a good-sized garden with pleasant, sunny aspect and a table with bench seating.  Dogs are welcome (additional charge), normally one, another by arrangement.  A garden shed provides storage for bikes and there is also a canoe/kayak rack.

Talybont is fortunate in having a general store, Post Office and café in the village, plus an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants to choose from.

Our favourite is the Star Inn,  two minutes’ walk away, which offers an excellent selection of real ales from near and far, plus good value food, sourced locally wherever possible.  Voted local CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2009, 2010 and 2011, its reputation is fully deserved and everyone is welcome here.

Further afield, there is good local shopping in both Brecon and Crickhowell and supermarkets in Brecon, Abergavenny and Merthyr.

There is a wealth of walking and cycling options straight from the front door, along the canal, up the Brinore Tramway to Talybont Forest and Reservoir and onto the open hills of the Brecon Beacons beyond. For those preferring something less energetic, there are short walks to suit all and splendid scenery to enjoy throughout the area, making this an excellent base from which to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park and beyond.
